The Party Cabin

The Party Cabin is a mainstay at SLC.  Hopefully, it will stay that way for the years to come.  This section of the site is devoted to the Party Cabin, along with its many weird traditions.

Note: From here on in, the Party Cabin will be referred to as the PC.

History

While friends have stayed in each other's cabins for quite some time, the first occurance of a lot of youth staying in one cabin together was in 1995.  As some of you may remember (and others have heard about), that was the year when there were two youth cabins... which created the War of 1995.

In 1996, some of the youth (Cameron Bignell, Paul Hicken, Rob Tyndale and Adam Wood) stayed in a cabin together, which was called "The Linen Closet."  It should be noted that the name has since been changed.  It should also be noted that Adam Crockatt and Karl Oldham were made to sleep in their parent's cabin, due to the previous year's activities.  Despite the punishments however, the youth did manage to band together during the day, and even decided to invite girls into the cabin, a thought that had never previously been thought of.  Also, this year was the first year that the youth had their own stereo system, which consisted of Cameron's discman attached to Adam Wood's ghetto blaster.  It was a rockin year.

1997 was the year that Adam and Karl were allowed to sleep in a youth cabin again, and to celebrate, the youth created the first official "Party Cabin."  I say official because the name had previously never been used.  It was in it's current location, and housed Cameron Bignell, Adam Crockatt, Paul Hicken, Karl Oldham, Jack Wesselo and Adam Wood.  The location was chosen due to the fact that no other cabins were around, so the party could go on well into the night.  Again girls were allowed into the cabin, but unfortunately, not all the guys were.  For example the CJC faction (Chris, Justin & Chris) frightened the older youth too much to be allowed in.  It should be noted that this was also the first year of full-out initiation... until we got yelled at.  It was also the first year of the weiner fight... until we got yelled at.

1998 was considered by many to be the best PC year ever.  All the guys who fit the requirements of, well, being a guy were allowed in.  Cameron Bignell brought up his stereo system, which was really, really, loud.  Several new people came, including several niners who were initiated quite extensively.  Emily Crockatt was initiated again.  The Seawolf, which is the official boat of the PC, was created.  And finally, the PC got it's own outhouse!  Nobody actually used it, but it was there.  Oh yeah, another weiner fight happened, and guess what?  We got in trouble.

1999 was an interesting year.  Forced by the invasion of even more guys, PC members were made to sleep in tents, on the floor, and wherever else we could stick them.  Still, as always, the PC managed.  During this year, was the dreaded "Clique," which made pretty much the whole PC uncomfortable.  Also, talk of the "Committee" which was, well, a committee designed to control SLC, started circulating around SLC, so the PC was pretty much ticked off over that.  Overall, this year still ranks as one of the best.

2000 had the promise of being a high point in the life of the PC.  For one thing, an alternate cabin, called simply "The Girl's Cabin" or "Cabin 13" was created, giving the PC an arch enemy.  The only raid, however, was conducted on Friday night by five unknown members of the PC.  They got in trouble.  It was also a year that (for the final night only) two grade 8's were allowed into it.  This decision was based on the fact that there were only five actual youth members there, and the Party Cabin felt empty (there are six bunks).  Also, during the previous year, the PC gained a skylight, which was quite nice.

The thing that makes the PC so great, isn't the traditions, isn't the music, isn't any of those little things.  The thing that makes the PC so great, year after year, are the youth.  The youth are the ones who give it life and spirit, who speak their minds on virtually any topic at all, who care about each other, even when they pretend to hate each other.  I personally consider them all great friends of mine, and that is why I love just hanging out with them.

Maps

We spend a lot of time hanging out at the PC and the surrounding area, in fact, at almost any time of day, you'll find at least one youth member there.  So, here is a little map of the PC and the surrounding area, just so ya'll know what it looks like.
