Dear Mom

I went to a party mom                                        He didn't know where he was going, mom,
I remembered what you said.                             He was probably at the same party as I.
You told me not to drink mom,                          The only difference is, mom,
So I drank soda instead                                     He drank and I will die.

I felt really proud inside, mom,                           Why do people drink, mom?
The way you said I would.                                 It can ruin your whole life.
I didn't drink and drive, mom,                            I'm feeling sharp pains now, mom,
Even though others said I should.                       Pains just like a knife.

I know I did the right thing mom,                      The guy who hit me is walking, mom,
I know you're always right.                               I don't think it's fair.
Now the party is finally ending, mom,                I'm lying here dying, mom,
As everyone drives out of sight.                       While all he can do is stare.

As I got into my car, mom,                              Tell my brother not to cry, mom.
I knew I'd get home in one piece,                    Tell daddy to be brave,
Because of the way you raised me, mom,        And when I get to heaven mom,
So responsible and sweet.                              Write "Daddy's Little Girl" on my grave

I started to drive away, mom                          Someone should have told him, mom
But as I pulled out onto the road,                    Not to drink and drive.
The other car didn't see me, mom                   If only they'd have taken the time, mom,
And it hit me like a load.                                 I would still be alive.

As I lie here on the pavement, mom,               My breath is getting shorter, mom
I hear the policeman say,                                I'm becoming very scared, Please, don't
The other guy is drunk, mom,                         Cry for me, mom, because when I needed you,
Now I'm the one who'll pay.                          You were always there.

I'm lying here dying mom,                               I have one last question mom,
I wish you'd get here soon.                             Before I say goodbye,
How come this happened to me, mom?          I didn't ever drink, mom,
My life burst like a balloon.                            So why am I to die?

There is blood all around me, mom,                This is the end, mom,
Most of it is mine                                            I Wish I could look you in the eye
I hear the paramedic say, mom,                      To say these final words, mom
I'll be dead in a short time.                              I love you, and goodbye.

I just wanted to tell you, mom
I swear I didn't drink
It was the others mom
The others didn't think.
