"Proud Of Me"
When I was a little girl
I was told I would never succeed,
That I would always fail
And never be proud of me.
The Harder I tried
More pain is what I received,
I then began to believe
There was nothing out there for me.
When I was just six years old
A man entered my life,
He said he loved me and tried to be my father
But then expected me to be a wife.
He took alot of things from me
Throughout the next 20 years,
But the most important thing he stole
Were my precious childhood years.
He robbed me of my innocence
He robbed me of true love,
He took away my self-esteem
And everything that I dreamed of.
As I grew a little older
I tucked the pain away,
And then to hide it even more
I lied to people day after day.
When I became an adult
And tried to make a life,
I didn't think I was worthy of that
So I gave up my dreams and became a wife.
I didn't know it at the time
But I was still under his control,
I continued in the cycle
And I really paid the toll.
The man that I had married
Was not who I thought he was,
He pushed me down even lower
But I thought that's all there was.
I had a daughter with this man
And tried to be a family,
I had no knowledge of what that was
Because no one had given it to me.
I hung on to what I had
For the next 4 years of my life,
I did the best that I could
Trying to be a perfect mother and wife.
As my life went on day by day
I began to realize what I had done,
I continued in the cycle of abuse
And I knew I had to run.
By that time my esteem was very low
I had no strength to call,
I did get very lucky
And found some special friends to pull me through it all.
They gave me back my strength
They gave me back my love,
They brought back my innocence
And everything I dreamed of.
My fight is not over yet
I have a long way to go,
I've broken the cycle of abuse
And now I am free to grow.
I'm not that little girl anymore
I know that I CAN succeed,
Even if I do fail sometimes
I now know that I can always be

THINK OF THOSE WHO LOVE YOU
If someone should hurt you
and say a thing unkind,
Remember that I write you,
and keep these thoughts in mind.
For everyone that makes you cry,
there are three who make you smile,
And a smile will last a long, long time,
but a tear just a little while.
Don't let someone who hates the world
cause you to hate it too.
Behind the clouds is a golden sun,
and a sky that's full of blue.
If someone said a thing that's cruel,
dont let it get to you,
Your achievements are greatly numbered,
and your faults are very few.
So if a certain person should act a certain way,
Think of those who love you,
and don't let it spoil your day.

A PLACE FOR ME
There is a special place in life,
That needs my humble skill,
A certain job I'm meant to do,
Which no one else can fulfill.
The time will be demanding,
And the pay is not too good
And yet I wouldn't change it
for a moment -- even if I could
There is a special place in life,
A goal I must attain,
A dream that I must follow,
Because I won't be back again.
There is a mark that I must leave,
However small it seems to be,
A legacy of love for those
Who follow after me
There is a special place in life,
That only I may share,
A little path that bears my name,
Awaiting me somewhere.
There is a hand that I must hold,
A word that I must say,
A smile that I must give
For there are tears to blow away.
There is a special place in life
that I was meant to fill.
A sunny spot where flowers grow,
upon a windy hill.
There's always a tomorrow and the
best is yet to be,
And somewhere in this world,
I know there is a place for me.
