Your Guide to all the Macintosh Sities on the Net!
So you want to know more about how to join The Mac Ring do you?
Well you've come to the right place. Whether
you think the Mac Ring is cool and want to be in it, or if you
just want another way to increase the hits on your
page, this is the place to make it happen.
Joining The Mac Ring is a relatively straightforward process. It consists of registering
with The Mac Ring, putting the Mac Ring controls on your homepage, and once that is done, being inserted into the Ring.
The following are the steps you need to take to launch your page into The Mac Ring. Be sure to follow them
to preserve the integrity of the Ring.
Step 1.
Are you sure that the page you want to add has a majority of Macintosh content? See the
Page Contents for a further explanation of what is meant by 'Mac Content'. If you think
it does then please move on down to Step 2.
Step 2. - Registering your Site
Fill out this form and submit it. This registers your site with The Mac Ring and gives you a Site ID number.
Please note that you are not yet part of the Ring, the actual insertion is done later.
Step 3. - Adding the Mac Ring controls
Next, save yourself a copy of the Mac Ring graphics you want. (in Step 4). I called the one on the left apple.gif
and the one on the right mac2.gif.
Step 4.
Here you have two choices what to do.
OPTION 1 - Use the form below to create your personalised HTML for you. Warning, this uses Javascript
and therefore may not function correctly on all browsers.
Add the fragment to your homepage then go directly to Step 9.
OPTION 2 - Alternatively you can add the Mac Ring controls below to your homepage. This is so that
others can navigate the loop from your page. The easiest way to do this is to copy the HTML fragment directly
from the source code, and then paste it into your own homepage.
Make sure the fragment points to images on your own site. The Mac Ring link, however,
should still point to /SunsetStrip/1166/mac.html.
Step 7.
Change the e-mail address and name from __________ to your own.
Step 8.
Change the four references to http://www.webring.org/cgi-bin/webring?ring=fmac&id=____
so that the ____, is replaced by your Site ID number.
For example, if your site ID is 375, the href should be something like
http://www.webring.org/cgi-bin/webring?ring=mac&id=375&next. Note - your controls will all link back to
the The Mac Ring homepage until you are inserted into the Ring.
Step 9. - Insertion into the Ring
You can be inserted into the Ring by me, the ring master. To do this E-mail me with your Site ID Number.
Then I will want to look at your page to make sure it has some Mac content and that the Mac Ring
HTML fragment on your page is okay.
After checking out your page, the existing Mac Ring site's owner will take your Site ID Number
and use it to add you to the ring. They should then e-mail you telling you you've been added.
That's it! You should now be able to navigate the entire Ring and make it back to your own page.
An easy way to make sure it is working is to go to the homepage of the person who added you and see if
the next button takes you to your own page. If it doesn't, they didn't add you to the Ring.
Please only add Mac Links. Its no big deal if you dont, you just wont be listed. But besides that add any thing you want Anarcy & Shareware pages, etc!!
