A.) Global Installation with "root" priviliges

1) Create a subdirectory for the 3D Motion Controller driver

• mkdir /usr/magellan
• chmod 777 /usr/magellan
• cd /usr/magellan

2) Copy driver from storage media

• mkdir /CDROM
• mount -F cdfs -o ro,cdcase /dev/dsk/c0t#d0 /CDROM
• cp /CDROM/unix/hp/xdriver xdriver

(CDROM, SUN)

• mkdir /cdrom
• mount -F hsfs -r /dev/dsk/c0t6d#s0 /cdrom
• cp /cdrom/cdrom0/unix/sun/xdriver xdriver

(CDROM, SGI)

• mkdir /CDROM
• mount -rt iso9660 /dev/scsi/sc0d#l0 /CDROM
• cp /CDROM/unix/sgi/xdriver xdriver

(CDROM, IBM)

• mkdir /cdrom
• mount -v cdrfs -r /dev/cd0 /cdrom
• cp /cdrom/unix/ibm/xdriver xdriver

NOTE: Replace the symbol # with the number of your CD-ROM device!

3) Install and Config the driver

• chmod 555 xdriver
• ./xdriver -new -global
• Select your application and the serial port where the 3D Motion Controller is connected. Press the "Install" button and the "Exit" button.

4) User defined configurations (OPTIONAL)

• Create a link from /usr/magellan/home to the home directory of all users.
• ln -s /home /usr/magellan/home (e.g.)
• Copy one time the global configuration file to the user home directory.
• cp /usr/magellan/xdriver.ini /home/<user-name>/xdriver.ini

Uninstall Global Installation with "root" priviliges
1) Uninstall the xdriver

• /usr/magellan/xdriver -new -global
• Wait a moment, the just started xdriver would be killed and replaced by the global running xdriver. Press the "Uninstall" button and "Exit"

B.) Local Installation without "root" priviliges

1) Create a subdirectory for the 3D Motion Controller driver

• mkdir ./magellan
• chmod 777 ./magellan
• cd ./magellan

2) Copy driver from storage media

(CDROM, HP)

• mkdir /CDROM
• mount -F cdfs -o ro,cdcase /dev/dsk/c0t#d0 /CDROM
• cp /CDROM/unix/hp/xdriver xdriver

(CDROM, SUN)

• mkdir /cdrom
• mount -F hsfs -r /dev/dsk/c0t6d#s0 /cdrom
• cp /cdrom/cdrom0/unix/sun/xdriver xdriver

(CDROM, SGI)

• mkdir /CDROM
• mount -rt iso9660 /dev/scsi/sc0d#l0 /CDROM
• cp /CDROM/unix/sgi/xdriver xdriver

(CDROM, IBM)

• mkdir /cdrom
• mount -v cdrfs -r /dev/cd0 /cdrom
• cp /cdrom/unix/ibm/xdriver xdriver

• chmod 555 xdriver
• ./xdriver -new

4) The xdriver has to be active before you launch your application

• e.g. Enter the call of the xdriver in the application startup file
• e.g. Enter the call of the xdriver in a login startup file (.cshrc)
• e.g. Enter the call of the xdriver in the Xstartup file (as root)
• Call of the xdriver: path/xdriver &

Uninstall Local Installation without "root" priviliges

• 1) Uninstall the xdriver
• Remove the call of the xdriver from your startup file.
